A Child Cries

DaughterA little girl plays in a sand box  A plastic sift is gripped in her hands.  
She stares intently at the lose earth before her  
a fist full of sand is dropped into the sift   
Sand falls  nothing is left  the process repeated  nothing is found   
The sift is dropped  
and little eyes begin to tear up   
a familiar hand reaches over her shoulder  the sift is picked up and placed in little hands  the hand reaches for the sand  
and places a hand full into the sift   
Sand falls  A little plastic jewel is left behind  the little girl squeals with Daughter

They chained her to the earth  And gave her to the dark ones  Who torment her mind  And tear at her soul
